Man killed in traffic crash identified

MERIDIAN —     Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler identified Thursday afternoon a man who died in a one-car traffic accident on New Years eve as Nathan Hopson, 57, of 405 B St. in Meridian.

At about 8 p.m., Cobler said Hopson was passing another car at a high rate of speed on the Highway 45 bypass ramp Tuesday when he overcorrected his car, which crossed the median and struck trees on the opposite side of the road.

Cobler said Hopson was the sole occupant of the car. Hopson was pronounced dead at the scene, Cobler said. Cobler said Thursday afternoon Hopson died from severe head trauma.
