After hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaged Louisiana and coastal Mississippi, Galloway worked with the Hancock County Emergency Management Team in Bay St. Louis to reach out to the public. Broadcasting nightly on low power station WQRZ, Galloway was able to provide essential information about road closures and where people could go to get food, water, and medical care. Thursday morning, the Local Community Radio Act (S592) that would effectively bring low power radio broadcasts to rural areas passed unanimously out of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation with a voice vote. Both the Senate and House versions of the bill are on their way to full floor votes. Meridian Police Department Capt. James Sharpe, commander of the department's investigative division, said Thursday afternoon in a press release 44-year-old Shawn L. Rackley has been identified as the victim. Sharpe said a possible contributing factor to Rackley's accidental death may have resulted from the victim's health problems. A project update issued to the city by developer HRI Properties stated that a need for an additional $6.6 million was found when construction pricing was updated. Josh Collen, vice president of development for HRI, said the developer "(has) no intention to ask the city for additional funds." Rather, they want the city to assist in finding the $6.6 million from other sources.
