Hairshow to bring spirit of the holidays
From staff reports
An upcoming hair show will not only be about looking good, but also feeling good – through giving.
Holiday Hairshow Extravaganza will be presented Saturday at Frank Cochran Center. According to Tanesha "TEE" Williams, program coordinator, the show is about coming together, not profit.
"This show will feature stylists from Meridian, Kemper County, Newton, Philadelphia and Alabama," said Williams, owner of Tee's Braids and Beauty Salon.
"This has been a vision and an assignment from God as a way to bring different professional and creative ideas to the Meridian area, and to provide local and area hair stylists a venue to showcase their God-given talents."
All races, genders and talents will be showcased in three areas of participation: casual styles, holiday styles and exotic styles of color.
In addition, there will be four competitions for cash prizes: "Can You Swing It? Ponytail Style" (style with human hair); "Beat the Clock Braider," (how many braids in 2 minutes); "How Low Can You Go? Natural Low Cuts" (cut a natural short cut); and "Best Barber Clipper Cut Art," (best design in 2 minutes).
And to generate the spirit of the holiday season, Williams is asking those attending the hairshow to "Help me help the needy" by donating a coat (new or gently used) or five canned goods.
"Those who bring a coat or canned good will receive $5 off their admission price at the door," she said. "Donations will be given to local charities so that others may also enjoy the holidays."
Live performances will be presented by Meridian's own recording artist Patrice Moncell Gathright; upcoming gospel recording artist Cedric Brassfield; the Christian mime group Annointed Faces of Jackson; and a mini-stageplay from local writer Jackie Williams' Gitright Productions.
