Patrolmen with the Meridian Police Department responded to two calls Thursday night in regards to gunfire.
Officials with the MPD said Friday there is no confirmation as yet shots were actually fired in the 3400 block of 11th Street or in the Frank Barry Courts area of Eighth Street. As with all reports handled by the MPD, authorities are investigating the alleged incidents.
"We don't have anyone reported injured and no arrests have been made," said Lt. James Sharpe, interim commander of the MPD's Investigative Division. "We can't find evidence that shots were actually fired but we respond to the reports nonetheless."
The first report was of shots allegedly fired near 1123 35th Ave., at around 5:10 p.m. The second call came in approximately an hour later in the Frank Barry Courts area.
"We respond to reports of gunshots on a routine basis," said Sharpe. "The vast majority of times it turns out guns haven't been fired at all. People just hear a loud bang and quickly assume it is somebody shooting a gun when it is something else altogether."
One person was reportedly detained for a short time and then released.
