Five men from Lauderdale County volunteer fire departments recently graduated training basics to become Level 1 certified volunteer firefighters. The classes began in May of this year and encompassed 130 hours of instruction ranging from fire history to emergency medical services in the fire service. The firefighters had to take and pass a 200-question written test covering 25 firefighting subjects. They also had to complete live fire skills training at the Mississippi Fire Academy in Pearl. Those who are now certified volunteer firemen are, bottom row from left, Assistant Chief James Joiner of Toomsuba-Alamucha VFD, Fire Fighter Gary Pinter of Bailey VFD, and Fire Fighter Brad Harper of Causeyville VFD.
