Residents and property owners who think their properties might be identified as flood risks are invited to attend an open house on the subject Thursday, Nov. 13. There, they can take a look at preliminary flood insurance rate maps and identification of areas subject to flooding in Meridian and surrounding Lauderdale County.
The meeting, hosted by the Mississippi Flood Map Modernization Initiative Team, will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the 11th floor board room in the Courthouse Annex.
Local, state and federal officials will be available to present information about flood risks, flood insurance, floodplain development requirements and the process for floodplain mapping in the city and outside the city. Property owners, realtors, insurance agents, and anyone else with an interest in flood risk are encouraged to attend and learn more about flood risk and hazard mitigation within the community.
