Three families to be honored by MCC Foundation
By Ida Brown / senior staff writer
Three Meridian families will be honored tonight at the Meridian Community College Foundation's Membership Appreciation Party.
The honorees – The Eddie Holladay Family, the Hunter George Weddington Family and The Jack Malone Family – will be recognized during the annual event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at Northwood Country Club.
"This is our way of thanking everybody for supporting the college and supporting scholarships and Tuition Guarantee," said Kathy Brookshire, director of institutional advancement at MCC.
"There's No Place Like Home: MCC, Your Emerald City," will be the theme for the evening. After a cocktail time, Tony Pompelia, Foundation president, will address the membership and provide an update.
A video presentation featuring each of the honorees and their families will be presented, followed by a special presentation by MCC President Dr. Scott Elliott. In addition to a plaque, each honoree will receive a family photo and will receive a scholarship tribute in their name for Spring 2010.
The MCC Foundation currently boasts a membership of more than 800 alumni and friends, as well as business leaders. The Foundation's purpose is to provide leadership in attracting private investment to the college, to demonstrate exemplary stewardship whereby the college can strengthen its commitment to excellence, and to foster a better understanding of individual and corporate philanthropy.
In 1996, The MCC Foundation established its innovative “Tuition Guarantee” for Meridian and Lauderdale County high school graduates. Financial support from the community covers the cost of tuition for these students. Its success is helping build the workforce of tomorrow and raising expectations among younger students that they can go to college. To date, The Foundation has invested more than $1.6 million dollars in the Tuition Guarantee.
