Bryant makes a stop in Meridian

By Ben Lockridge

On Tuesday, Lt. Governor candidate Phil Bryant paid Meridian a visit to receive an endorsement by representatives of the Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi.

Richard Davis of J.A Terral Insurance Agency says that their endorsement of Bryant is because of Bryant’s efforts in bringing tort reform to Mississippi in 2005.

“That brought an end to frivolous law suits and jackpot winnings. We want Bryant for Lt. Governor because of his conservative views, and being pro-business,” Davis said.

Phil Bryant, the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor, said that the business community understands some things that he also understands.

“My opponent is a trial lawyer, and the business community does not want that as their representative as Lt. Governor,” Bryant said. “They fear that we will go back to those terrible days of lawsuit abuse.”

Bryant will face Jamie Franks, the Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor in the Nov. 6 election.

In addition to Tuesday’s endorsement, it was also announced that several other pro-business groups have endorsed Bryant.

Some of these include:

• Mississippi Association of Realtors

• Mississippi Manufacturers Association

• Associated General Contractors of Mississippi

Along with Bryant’s stop in Meridian, he also visited Columbus and Hattiesburg on Tuesday.
