Three Meridian women are being held for questioning by detectives in two incidents involving the theft of money from local businesses.

At about 2:15 p.m. Thursday, at least two women walked into the Suzi Q's Resale location at 302 S. 24th Ave. and made off with an undetermined amount of cash. Lt. James Sharpe, interim commander of the Meridian Police Department's Investigative Division, said the grand larceny incident very closely resembled an incident Wednesday that occurred at the RDT Metal Works located at 3021 Hwy. 45 North.

"Apparently, one or more of the women would distract the clerk or store owner while another one would sneak into the back of the business or behind the counter and steal as much money as they could," said Sharpe. "We are still in the process of questioning these three women we apprehended today and charges against them may be forthcoming."

Sharpe said no weapon was used in the heists and none of the clerks were injured.

"In the incident Thursday afternoon a money bag was reportedly taken along with a purse," said Sharpe. "The subjects left, according to witnesses, in a silver Chevrolet Impala with an Enterprise Rental tag."

About 45 minutes later patrol officers with the MPD tracked down the car and took the subjects into custody to be held for detectives.
