Fields of Faith: Student evangelism

By Ben Lockridge / staff writer

Wednesday night will mark the 2008 Fields of Faith in Enterprise.

Fields of Faith was formed by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the event is a student-led worship experience, with music, testimony, and the most important moment in every Christians life – becoming one.

High school students invite their friends from school to meet on the football field in Enterprise to reach them for Christ. However, this doesn't just happen in Enterprise; many schools in the nation now participate in Fields of Faith. There are currently 10 participating schools in Mississippi.

Suzanne Raley, coordinator for the Enterprise Fields of Faith, said a lot of planning goes into an event like this.

“You have to find speakers, and you have to find a worship band," Raley said. "There is a good bit of work that goes into this.”

This year there will be two student speakers at Fields of Faith. Meridian High football player, Hamp Glover, and Quitman student, Madeline Lafferty.

“We do a lot of praying about who we find to speak; we spend a lot of time listening to the Lord about that," she said. "It has to be someone who has an awesome reputation, and lives for the Lord.”

Raley said she thinks working with youth is one of the most important ministries out there.

“It's wonderful to see young people challenged to live for the Lord,” she said. “In my opinion schools are the biggest mission field on the planet. We send missionaries all over the world, but we need student missionaries on our campus.”

Raley said that a goal for Fields of Faith is by 2010 every school in the nation host a Fields of Faith event on their football field.

The closest location for young people to experience Fields of Faith in this area is Enterprise High School in Clarke County. It will be on the football field at 7 p.m. Youth leaders are urged to bring their youth to this once a year event.
