May I add my accolades for all those who have had a part in the restoration of our magnificent opera house and the exciting programming that has been scheduled. May I also make just a small correction to the statement that the opening night nearly two weeks ago was the first time than an audience had sat in the seats or a performance been given on the stage since 1927.
On March 29 and 30, 1991, the music and drama ministry of Midway Baptist Church, under the premise of bringing the Gospel to the marketplace, present the musical drama, “The Promise” — a pageant on the life of Jesus Christ, by Gary Rhodes. About 100 musicians, actors, directors and staging assistants had a part in the presentations in the old, dusty, unrestored, but still awesome structure. Little did we imagine the glory to which she would be raised, but we knew it was a jewel just waiting to be resurrected by creative and generous minds, hearts and hands. We are so excited to have been a tiny blip on the screen of its history.
