1:30 p.m. Police looking for burglary suspect

By Brian Livingston

Meridian Police Department authorities are currently searching for a suspect in at least two burglary incidents, the latest of which allegedly occurred Sept. 1 in Meridian.

Lt. James Sharpe of the MPD said they are trying to locate and arrest John Wayne Sims, 28, who is thought to still be in the Meridian area. Sharpe said Sims has two warrants for felony burglary.

Authorities say they should use extreme caution if they come in contact with Sims.

"We have information that he stole a handgun in one of the incidents so we consider him armed and dangerous," said Sharpe. "In a previous arrest he was found to be carrying a firearm."

Anyone with information pertaining to the whereabouts of Sims are asked to not approach him but instead contact the nearest law enforcement agency or dial 911.
