The Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi held its 16th Annual Celebration of Excellence fund-raiser dinner Thursday night at the Frank Cochran Center in historic Highland Park.
University of Mississippi Head Football Coach Houston Nutt attended the event as key note speaker.
"I grew up with a lot of experiences with Boys and Girls Club," Nutt said before the event, "Some of the greatest experiences of your life happen right there."
At the event, area youth, staff, and volunteers were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the club.
A seated dinner was provided and door prizes from area businesses were awarded. The event was held to support the local Boys and Girls Club, which provides after school programs for more than 2,000 youth in Lauderdale and Kemper Counties, and which has been feeling the impact of soaring gas prices.
"We're just excited about it," Ricky Hood, chief executive officer of the local Boys and Girls Club, said of the sold-out event.
"This is our major fund-raiser of the year. We're excited about Coach Nutt and we're excited because this is a great night for the children."
