With the closing of Ultimate Fun World Meridian was temporarily left without a place for kids to play skee-ball, putt-putt, or ride on a go-kart track.
Luckily for Meridian's kids, the former Ultimate Fun World location will re-open today as The Park, and many of its attractions will be new or improved.
The Park has updated Ultimate Fun World's look, as well as its old machines, the manager Christie Rigdon said. In addition to that, The Park will feature brand new go-karts on its go-kart track.
When Ultimate Fun World occupied the North Hills Street building, it was accompanied by a Movie Galley rental store, which closed shortly after Ultimate Fun World. The Park's owner, Linda Goldman of Goldman Enterprises, said she doesn't plan to open another video rental store in the building — because she plans to open a restaurant there instead. The restaurant will have a family atmosphere and will tie-in with the arcade and other attractions of The Park.
The new facility, which will also feature an outdoor canopy party area, had a VIP sneak peek opening Thursday, in which numerous local kids were invited to munch on hot dogs and play video games.
"We love it," said Austin Adams, a local youngster who came to enjoy The Park along with his friend, Jonathan Williams.
"It's fun! It's cool!" said Mason Daniels, another local child.
The Park opens for business today, but its full concessions will not be available until next week. The restaurant and outdoor party area will be constructed at a later date.
