A 17-year-old who has been battling for his life since being involved in a car versus pedestrian accident Sunday night in Marion was pronounced dead Friday afternoon.
The name of the teen has not yet been released.
Officials with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said the teen sustained extensive head trauma as a result of the impact with a vehicle driven by an unidentified driver at about 10:20 p.m. June 21.
LCSD Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun said at the time of the accident the teen was struck as he was walking on Marion Lizelia Road near Tuscaloosa Street. Both the vehicle and the pedestrian were traveling north. There was no information available as to how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the incident. Calhoun said no charges have been filed but the driver was ticketed at the scene for operating a vehicle on an expired driver's license.
