Two men are being held in a Sumter County, Alabama jail today as investigators and federal agents try to determine if they were responsible for the Monday morning robbery of a Scooba bank.
According to law enforcement authorities with the Kemper County Sheriff's Department, the two men were taken into custody by Sumter County deputies about an hour after a lone armed man walked into the Citizen's National Bank in Scooba making off with an undetermined amount of cash.
At about 9:40 a.m. Monday, the lone man produced a handgun to one of the tellers at the bank demanding money. Once he was handed several thousand dollars, he fled through a wooded area where a silver car driven by another individual was waiting. The two suspects were then seen driving away from the area on Hwy. 16 toward the Alabama state line.
In his haste to escape, the suspect dropped several hundred dollar bills which were recovered by Kemper County Sheriff's Department investigators.
No one was hurt during the incident.
