You may think your child is as snug as a bug in their child seat but you could be wrong.
Is that a chance you want to take?
Nationally most child safety seats are not installed properly. This can result in severe injuries or even death in the event of a car crash. Also, seats may be defective from the factory and on a recall notice.
On Friday, the Meridian Police Department, in conjunction with Mississippi Safe Kids, will conduct a Child Safety Seat Checkpoint at Bonita Lake Park beginning at 1 p.m. and going through 3 p.m.
"This is not a child safety seat give away, but there may be seats available
to exchange if your seat is defective or on recall," said MPD Capt. Rick McCary. "If you would like to have your seat inspected or if you are unsure as to whether it is being used properly, please come to Bonita Lakes Recreation Park this Friday and have it checked out."
McCary said for motorists to take the first right after entering the park. "It is always best to have the child who will be riding in the seat with you if possible," McCary added. "But they will check all car seats that are brought in."
