Qualynn Desmond, a second grader from Harris Elementary was the overall winner in a drawing contest held on the subject of "What Green Means to Me." The contest was held in celebration of the city of Meridian's "Green Team" unveiling on Earth Day, April 22, along with plans for the city to "Go Green." Students from the Meridian Public Schools, Lamar School, St. Patrick Catholic School and Calvary Christian School, all took part in contests. Younger students entered drawings; older students wrote a short essay. Other contest winners included Alexis May, kindergarten student at Calvary Christian School, Dillon Young, third-grader at Crestwood Elementary and Qualynn Desmond, second-grader at Harris Elementary.
