Candidates debate in Meridian tonight

Candidates vying to replace Chip Pickering, Jr. for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives will gather for a debate at 7 p.m. in MSU-Meridian's Kahlmus Auditorium.

All the candidates except Democrat Joel Gill are expected to be in attendance. This includes Republicans Gregg Harper, John Rounsaville, David Landrum, Charlie Ross and James Broadwater from the Jackson Metro Area, Republicans Greg Hatcher and Bill Marcy from Meridian, and Democrat Randy Eads.

Moderating will be Sid Salter of the Clarion Ledger. Panelists will include two representatives of Mississippi State University’s John C. Stennis Institute, which sponsors the debates, and two journalists chosen by Salter. Because of time concerns caused by the large number of candidates, questions from the audience will not be taken.
