Hickory Happenings

RADICAL REVIVAL will be held at HICKORY BAPTIST, February 15th-18th, at 6:30 p.m. Gary Permenter, Speaker, Kevin Williams, Music. Pastor Guy Odom invites anyone to come and worship with us.

The Youth are selling spaghetti plates on Sunday, February 22 at noon at Hickory Baptist. The tickets are $4 each.

JOIN US AT HICKORY BAPTIST February 22nd at 6:30 p.m. to watch "FIREPROOF" a Christian film about marriage. Childcare will be provided. Tickets will be available for your friends.

BLOOD DRIVE: February 15th at Hickory Baptist Church, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

Hickory United Methodist Church Services: (9:45 a.m. Sunday School), (11 a.m. Morning Worship), (6 p.m. Evening Worship), (Wednesday night Prayer meeting, 6 p.m.). Pastor, Frank Kirtley, Pianist, Janie Todd, Secretary, Gail Cochran. Everyone is invited to attend any or all services.

Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church is located four miles northeast of Hickory. Church services: (10 a.m. Sunday School), (Morning Worship, 11 a.m.), (Evening Worship, 6 p.m.), ( Wednesday Prayer Meeting/Bible Study, 7 p.m.). Everyone is invited to attend all or any of the services. Pastor: Thomas Laird.

Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Boose Road, Rev. Jimmy Evans Pastor, invites everyone to Sunday Service first, third and fifth Sunday's beginning at 9 a.m. for Sunday School, 10:30 a.m. Worship Service.

MT. VERNON M.B. SPRING REVIVAL will be March 1st thru March 6th each night beginning at 7 p.m. Rev. Jimmy Evans, Pastor.

PRAYER LISTS: Ms. Lorene Chaney from Berry Community, Marie Laird, (Nathan Evans, Macon, Miss. brother of Ms. Jimmie Craig), Millard Henley (son of Faye Henley) is home in Atlanta. Be sure to remember Millard and his family at this time, (Maxine Moulds, Ms. Eloise McCormick's sister), Carl Dowden, Harlon Ivy, Julene Anderson's step-father, Bobby Hurst. Dan Gardner, Margaret Bailey, Mary Jo Harris, Billy Shelby Everett, Jody Buckley, Thadus Green, Logan Emmons, Renna Ates at home, Evelyn Williams, Grace Bonner, Johnnie Hunter. Remember all the shut-ins in our community and the surrounding areas. Abertine Walker, Olive Meaders, Leola Fillingane and there may be others that I don't know about.

IN NURSING HOMES: are Christine Herd, Nina and Hulon McKee at J.T. Alexandria nursing home at Union. If you know anyone that is in the nursing homes let me know so I can add them to my lists.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Evie Lee Hayes Alexander Reed, aunt of Jimmy Hayes, funeral was held on Saturday in Meridian.

Two Hickory "boys" the late Denver Brackeen and Joe Gibbon made the Ole Miss Basketball "Team of the Century." The awards ceremony will be Friday, February 20th on the Ole Miss Campus.

THE GREATER HICKORY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE invites anyone to come to the Chamber Meetings on the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join as an individual, couples or business. The Chamber is looking for new members, business and planning to make Hickory look more inviting. DEADLINE FOR HICKORY MUNICIPAL ELECTION: Candidates have until March 6th at 5 p.m. to qualify. First primary will be held May 5th. Second primary if needed will be held May 19th. GENERAL ELECTION is set for June 2 for MAYOR, ALDERMAN AND COMMISSIONER.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Barbecue Spare - Ribs In Crock Pot Recipe: Ingredients: one cup finely chopped onion, three-fourth cup lemon juice, three-fourth cup chopped celery, one tablespoon butter, three tablespoon sugar, three tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, one-fourth cup wine vinegar, thirty-two ounce bottle ketchup, one tablespoon prepared mustard, salt and pepper, three to five pound beef or pork Texas style ribs.

Cooking Directions: In skillet, saute onion, celery and black pepper in butter. Add to crock pot with remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours (high setting 3 - 4 hours). Sauce can be doubled and freezes well.
