Cellular South offers increased coverage and call capacity in Central Mississippi

From staff reports

Cellular South announced Tuesday it has added network infrastructure in central Mississippi to boost its coverage area and voice and data capacity for customers.

Among the new sites recently activated by the company includes a cell site located on King Road between Highway 495 and Highway 493.

Cellular South stated that this site extends coverage north of Meridian on Highway 495 through the community of Bailey.

Five cell sites also were added along Highway 16 in Neshoba and Kemper Counties to expand coverage on Highway 16 East from Philadelphia through DeKalb to Scooba. The site locations are Highway 16 Crossroads, Bethlehem, Kemper Lake, DeKalb, and Townsend.

Other cell sites include: Clinton High School, which enhances in-building coverage at the high school and the surrounding subdivisions; The University of Mississippi Medical Center in-building distributed antenna system is on-air. This system improves in-building coverage to the buildings on the University Medical Campus in Jackson; and a cell site located off Highway 27 at Hopewell in Copiah County. This site extends coverage between Georgetown and Crystal Springs.

Two cell sites were added on Highway 35 at Harperville and South Forrest. The Harperville cell site completes the link between Carthage and Forest and the South Forest cell will extend coverage on Highway 35 out towards Raleigh.

A cell site located on Highway 35 at Hillsboro is to extend coverage on Highway 35 North of Forest towards Carthage.

A cell site located on Highway 28 and Bailey Road will complete coverage on Highway 28 between Hazlehurst and Georgetown.

A cell site added at Medger Evers Blvd. and Woodrow Wilson Drive in Jackson enhances coverage in the Medical Mall and surrounding areas.

A cell site located in Mendenhall off Highway 13 will enhance coverage in and around the Downtown area of Mendenhall.

“Cellular South is very focused on providing our customers with the most advanced technologies to ensure that they have the best coverage possible,” said Jim Richmond, director of corporate communications for Cellular South. “We have worked closely and cooperatively with many city and county officials to complete this network expansion.”

Scott Watson, retail operations manager for Cellular South, said the company works continuously to meet the growing customer needs for voice and data services. “Today, customers want their wireless device to work indoors and in more places. Cellular South continues to be dedicated to these customers.”

Cellular South cited growing numbers of customers living an all-wireless lifestyle reporting that about 25 percent of Cellular South customers are wireless only and that Cellular South’s customers talk almost twice as much per month as the industry average, and they text almost seven times as much.
