Tony Pasko to perform, give away signed CD Friday

MERIDIAN —      If you've ever watched A&E Network's hit reality series "Duck Dynasty," you know the music of local guitarist Tony Pasko.

What you may not know is you can see it live and possibly win a signed CD when Pasko takes stage at The Temple Theatre on Friday, as The Sucarnochee Revue presents Be-Bop-A-Lula – a night of vintage music covering everything from pop and soft rock to Jimmie Rodgers and Spanish guitar.

Described by ReverbNation as having a sound influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, The Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, and Jimmy Page, Pasko found his way to Meridian from Chicago nine years ago after being discovered by Hartley Peavey of Peavey Electronics. The now nationally-recognized music industry professional and session guitarist said he is looking forward to his first performance at the Temple Theatre.

“I am excited to be playing in such an historic location in Meridian,” said Pasko, who was invited to perform by his longtime friend, Jacky Jack White, producer and host of The Sucarnochee Revue.

“I have known Jacky through the years and we have formed a special bond,” he said.

Accompanying Pasko will be his D-string partner, local artist and radio personality Al Brown. A signed copy of Pasko's instrumental holiday CD, “Band of Elves,” will go to one lucky fan during the show. The concert will also feature performances by local favorites Allen Hunt, Back Pocket, Kenny "Kid Cabana" Suire, Ivory Robinson, the Jaguars, and Sucarnochee regulars Mississippi Chris Sharp and Piper Lauderdale, Britt Gully, J Burton Fuller, and White himself.

"This show is themed 'Be-Bop-A-Lula' … that's an umbrella term for all kinds of great vintage pop and soft rock. Should be a wonderful night of music!” White said.

For more than 15 years, Pasko has worked and shared the stage with headlining artists such as the P-Funk All-Stars, Vince Neil, Jack Bruce, Gary Hoey, David Ellefson (Megadeth), Black Stone Cherry and Johnny Hiland. In 2012, Pasko signed with Downboys Records and released his debut EP, an eight song instrumental titled "Noise," worldwide. His "Band of Elves" CD, featuring 12 tracks of Christmas music in various styles, was produced for charity and has been distributed in more than 22 countries. Pasko has also written music for TV shows on the A&E, Spike TV and Syfy networks. He produces all of the background music for Duck Dynasty in his Meridian studio.

The Sucarnochee Revue continues with live shows at The Temple Theatre the first Friday of each month through November. The fourth in a six-show series, Be-Bop-A-Lula will be followed by Country Classics on Oct. 4, and Camp Meeting Revue – Peace in the Valley on Nov 1.

The Sucarnochee Revue has helped spread the original, traditional music of the twin states' folk culture and soil-rich Black Belt Region – a heritage that boasts legends like Elvis Presley, Hank Williams and bluesman Willie King – literally around the world.

Featuring musicians from the Country, Bluegrass, Southern Gospel, Rock N Roll and Blues genres, The Revue is a two-hour show recorded live at Meridian's Temple Theatre and at The University of West Alabama's Bibb Graves Auditorium in Livingston, Ala. Young artists such as American Idol’s Skylar Laine, as well as award-winning songwriters like Wood Newton and Rock N Roll Hall of Famer Spooner Oldham, have graced the Sucarnochee stage.

The Revue's weekly one-hour radio show has aired over 59 stations across the country and worldwide on Internet Radio. The Revue has also been syndicated in 10 states and in Australia and has been broadcast on Alabama and Mississippi Public Television and Radio and locally on WMOX-AM on Saturday afternoons. The Revue has aired on two Fox affiliates and one ABC affiliate and is in the process of becoming a thirty minute syndicated television series.

White, a Silverwolf and South City recording artist, is from Livingston and has had songs on the charts as a singer/songwriter since 1985. Artists who have recorded his songs include Ray Stevens, Charley Pride, Buddy Jewell, Steve Wariner, Neal McCoy and Mark Lowery. White received an ASCAP Award for "If I Didn’t Love You" and an NSAI Award for the No. 1 Southern Gospel song, "When Men Pray." More than 100 of his songs have been recorded.

The Revue is sponsored in Alabama by UWA's Center for the Study of the Black Belt and the Sumter County Fine Arts Council. Alabama show dates are Sept. 20, Oct. 25, Dec. 20, March 14 and April 19. All shows are open to the public with $10 admission at the door.
