Local author Catherine Horne shared the origins of interest in telling and writing stories at the October meeting of the Samuel Dale Chapter, Mississippi Sate Society Daughters of the American Revolution (MSSDAR).
The author of "Out of Mississippi Mists," Horne's presentation also include a brief discussion about the book, which features six ghost stories – including one about the Front Street Phanthom and a ghost train. She ended her program with a spooky poem.
Regent Glenda Thomas called the meeting to order and was assisted by Ethel McHenry with the opening ritual. The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the salute to the Mississippi State flag were led by Thomas. Sam Dale MSSDAR members recited the American’s Creed.

Caroline Wilson presented the National Defense Report. DAR minutes were presented by Regent Thomas, Dot Shank and Lynn Selman.
During the business session, the minutes were read by Sarah Walters; they were approved as read. Thomas presented the treasurer’s report.
Members discussed and made changes in their yearbooks.
New business included a donation for the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko; $91 was collected.

• Amy Brisco has been transferred to another military base and will look for a chapter at her new location.
• November’s speaker will be the chaplain for the 186th Air Guard.

Regent Thomas thanked the hostesses, Elizabeth Kalhmus, Janet Synard, Rachel Keller and Glenda Thomas.
