MERIDIAN —     Meridian Little Theatre has announced the cast for the upbeat Broadway hit "Legally Blonde-The Musical."

Nominated for seven Tony Awards and based on the popular film, the musical version tells the story of Elle Woods, the quintessential Valley Girl, who realizes she has more to offer to the world than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality.

So when her good looking, but pompous boyfriend, Warner Huntington III, dumps her for someone more serious, Elle puts down her credit cards, hits the books, and sets out to go where no UCLA Delta Nu sorority girl has gone before — Harvard Law School! Along the way, Elle learns that being true to yourself is a quality that never goes out of style.

Mia Hall, who has performed in several MLT plays, including "Footloose" and "Hairspray", has been cast in the starring role of Elle. James Gibson is set to play Emmett Forester, a smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing.     Forester has performed in several plays with Stage Two such as "Les Misérables" and "Meet Me in St. Louis."  Ross Brewster will perform as Warner Huntington III, Elle’s pretentious boyfriend; he was last seen in Meridian Community College’s production of "Guys and Dolls."

Lauren Pratt has been selected to perform as Vivienne Kensington, the intelligent and savvy law student who initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend.

Other members of the cast include Terri Ann Pankhurst as the brash and funny hair stylist, Paulette Buonofunte, who becomes friends with Elle and longs to find a man of her own. Pankhurst has numerous stage credits, including The Boyfriend and Little Mary Sunshine. Professor Callahan, played by John Collins, is the pompous and manipulative law professor; and Elle’s three sorority friends who follow her throughout the show are Laura Beasley, Tia Hall and Katie Bruister.

Additional supporting roles include Abbie Woolridge, as law student Enid Hoopes, and Melissa Anderson as Brooke Wyndam, the exercise queen.

Rounding out the ensemble are: Malley Scarbrough, Daniel Johnson, Enrique Abada, Scott Farmer, Thomas “Buddy” Webb, Zena Limerick, Jarod Armstrong, Martha Barnett, Nancy Gibson, Scott Stevens, Jack Hall, Terry Pankhurst, Linda Bruister, Rick Entrekin, Jessica Pankhurst, Nancy Gibson, Scott Causey, Meg Patterson, Haley Bailey, Maggie Craze, Becca Denny, Margaret Griffin, Claire McCraw, Jamie Murray, Kyra Smiley, Beaux Denham, and Rufus Webb.  “Beaux” a Chihuahua, will portray Elle Woods’ dog, “Bruiser, while”Rufus,” an English Bulldog, will portray hairdresser Paulette’s dog.

Under the direction of Ronnie Miller, Carol Merrill is choreographer and David Benson, musical director and conductor.

“We have several people with a lot of stage experience in the cast,” Miller said. “I am very pleased with the hard work all are putting into the show and I think MLT’s audience will find Legally Blonde a roaring success — infused with fun, fashion and frivolity. The verdict? This much fun shouldn’t be legal!”

Legally Blonde will be performed Oct. 17-23. Season tickets and individual show tickets are now available. Call the MLT Box Office at (601) 482-6371 or go to the website,
