Tryouts set for MCC's ‘Jekyll & Hyde’

MERIDIAN — Meridian Community College’s Fine Arts Department will hold auditions for "Jekyll & Hyde" on, Sept. 5.

“We will cast approximately 15 major leads for this show with the majority being male,” said Dr. Todd Brand, chairman of the fine arts and communication divisions at MCC.

Auditioners should bring 16 bars of a pop/rock-style Broadway ballad, said Steve Nabors, theater instructor.

“Something from the show is okay, or from another Wildhorn musical, for example, 'The Scarlet Pimpernel,' 'Dracula, the Musical' or 'The Count of Monte Cristo.' Ladies could sing any Linda Eder ballad or song,” Nabors added.

A gothic musical that tells the tale of the epic battle between good and evil, Jekyll & Hyde is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story about a doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of man's evil nature from his good, Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde.

Do you think the city of Meridian should aggressively enforce the city's code enforcement laws on litter, abandoned homes and overgrown lots by issuing tickets and stiff fines?
