MERIDIAN —     New year committees and projects were the focus of the February meeting of the Suqualena Community Development Club.

The club's newly elected president Annette Palmer discussed each committee, asking for approval of each committee and its members.

After Palmer called the meeting to order, Randall Palmer led the Pledge of Allegiance.

During the business session, it was noted that 26 box tops were taken to West Lauderdale Middle School for their Box Tops for Education fundraiser.

A report was presented on the Over 80s Valentine's Day luncheon. The committee comprised of Shirley Hutcherson, Becky Fulton, Joane Mackey and Jo Ann Kimbrel decorated and provided food. Janet Reeves, Shirley and Lloyd Hutcherson and Paul Bird provided music entertainment for the guests.

Jeane Jones thanked the club for her Christmas plant and the Valentine's Day luncheon.

Cathy Carpenter thanked the club for the donation to the Gideons in memory of her mother, Helen Denton. The club also sent a donation in memory of Pete Keller.

Sponsor's Night will be March 25 with the Buntin-Gunn Road Boys providing entertainment. Tables will be decorated in an Easter or spring theme.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be March 30 at 2 p.m. at Suqualena United Methodist Church. All children are invited to attend.

A new club project was added: collecting cans for Cans for Kids Children's Ministry.

Refreshments for the meeting were provided by Annette and Randall Palmer, Jo Ann and Al Kimbrell, Cathy and Bill Carpenter, Jeane Jone, Shirley Hutcherson and Joane Mackey.

Jeane Jones won the door prize
