CLEVELAND – The 2014 Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute at the Bologna Performing Arts Center (located on the campus of Delta State University) is filling up fast!
Limited spaces remain for Arts Camp, a two-week residential camp for ages 12-18, and PLUS Camp, a one-week day camp for ages 5-12. Both camps have a limited enrollment, and interested young artists are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible to secure a place at the Institute.
The goal of the Mississippi Summer Arts Institute (MSAI) is to encourage young artists to begin or continue their pursuits in the fine and performing arts. Through MSAI, participants are given the opportunity to further develop an established craft, as well as explore new, creative art forms.
Arts Camp, occurring June 8-21, is a two-week residential camp for ages 12-18. Students stay on the Delta State campus, take classes in various art forms with Delta State professors and professional teaching artists during the day, and participate in fun activities at night. Courses are offered in dance, literary arts, music, theater, and visual arts. Arts Camp culminates with a visual arts exhibition and literary arts reading, as well as a final performance which demonstrates the talents of the campers.
Young artists ages 5-12 are invited to attend PLUS Camp from July 14-19, a high-energy day camp which focuses on singing, dancing, puppetry, storytelling, and prop and set design. A final performance on July 19 showcases the hard work and dedication of our PLUS Campers.
Young artists who are interested in cultivating their artistic abilities in a positive and encouraging setting are invited to spend the summer at the Mississippi Summer Arts Institute.
Applications are available at the Bologna Performing Arts Center or for download online, www.bolognapac.com. For more information, call Whitney Cummins, Arts Education coordinator, at (662) 846-4844.
