'Tarzan' musical opens Thursday at MCC McCain Theater

MERIDIAN —     The McCain Theater on the Meridian Community College campus will turn into a jungle of sorts when the College’s Arts & Letters presents the musical, "Tarzan."

This MCC Fine Arts Department production gets under way on Thursday, with curtain at 7 p.m. Other performances are set for Friday and April 12, also at 7 p.m., and an April 13 matinee at 2 p.m.

Taken in and raised by a tribe of gorillas, the young boy strives for acceptance by his ape father while grappling with his uniqueness.

When a human expedition enters their territory, Tarzan – now a man – encounters strangers like himself for the first time. "Tarzan" features music and lyrics by Phil Collins, including the Grammy and Oscar winning song, "You'll Be in My Heart," and book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang.

Led by producer and director Dr. Todd Brand, this musical is family friendly. Tickets are $10, adults; $5, students, and are available by contacting Leia Hill at the Arts & Letters Series office at (601) 484-8696.
