MERIDIAN —     Thirteen local high school young ladies will make their formal debut into society at the 29th Annual Debutante Ball.

Sponsored by Meridian Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the ball will be the culmination of several months of preparation – including giving back through community service projects and participation in workshops on self-esteem and awareness, etiquette, career and goal setting, physical fitness and teen dating violence.

"The goal of this experience is not only to provide scholarships to our youth, but to also empower positive change in young ladies to believe and achieve their goals and to recognize that opportunities do exist because of whose they are," said Gwendolyn Graham, a sorority spokesperson.

The debutantes were selected based on academic achievement, school and community activities and high moral conduct/behavior. The ball will culminate several months of projects and activities.
