ECCC concert series begins Thursday

MERIDIAN —     DECATUR – The East Central Community College Wall O’ Sound Band Department will begin its 2014 Spring Concert Series at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, when the Symphonic Band presents its annual concert in Huff Auditorium on the Decatur campus.  

    Hunter Corhern, ECCC director of bands, said, “Selections for this concert will be made from the following: “Amparito Roca” by Jaime Texidor, “Into the Storm” by Robert W. Smith, “Down a Country Lane” by Aaron Copland, “Celtic Ritual” by John Higgins, based on original Celtic tunes and melodies; “Prairie Songs” by Pierre LaPlante; and “March to the Scaffold” by Hector Berlioz.

    Additional concerts in the series include: the "ECCC Night O' Jazz," April 3 in Vickers Auditorium; the ECCC Symphonic Band "Pops" Concert, April 14, in Huff Auditorium; and the "ECCC Night O' Percussion," April 24 in Huff Auditorium.  

    All events begin at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission and the public is invited to attend.

    In addition to the ECCC groups, the "Night O' Jazz" and “Night O’ Percussion” will feature an All-District Jazz Band and All-District Percussion Ensemble, respectively, composed of high school  students from the college’s five-county district of Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Winston counties.
