98TH BIRTHDAY

MERIDIAN — Cynthia Ola Radford Coleman Friend celebrated her 98th birthday on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at her favorite restaurant, The Western Sizzler Steakhouse, surrounded by family members. Mrs. Friend was born April 27, 1915, in Lauderdale County. At age 17 married her first husband, Lewis Coleman, and together they raised 12 children – nine of which are still living. They are: Evelyn Jones, Richard Coleman, Charles Coleman, Sarah King, Ora Barrett, Norman Coleman, Oscar Coleman, Cynthia Willis and Lillie Coleman. Mrs. Friend has one step-daughter from her second marriage, Ruby Friend Young. She has lost three children and two husbands, but Mrs. Friend continues to live a full and vital life in the same home where most of her children were reared. She has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and says she “ain’t tired yet”. Her hobbies include making quilts for friends and family, cooking, growing flowers, and talking on the phone.
