Thirteen mark debut to society at 2013 Debutante Ball

MERIDIAN — special to The Star

    Thirteen local high school young ladies made their formal debut into society at the recent 29th Annual Debutante Ball.

    Sponsored by Meridian Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the ball was the culmination of several months of preparation – including giving back through community service projects and participation in workshops on self-esteem and awareness, etiquette, career and goal setting, physical fitness and teen dating violence.Debutantes are selected based on academic achievement, school and community activities and high moral conduct/behavior.

    The 2013 Debutantes are: Sha’Kenya Blanks, Southeast Lauderdale High School, daughter of Sharon Blanks and Habib Ruffin; Jozlyn Clark, Meridian High School, daughter of Priscilla Pack and Ardonaus Clark; Alliejah Echols, Meridian High School, daughter of Holly Smith and Watson Echols; Katie Glenn, Meridian High School, daughter of Alonzo and Linda Glenn; Diana Gordon, Meridian High School, daughter of Anthony and Tiffany Gordon; Octavia Antionette Hearn, Meridian High School, daughter of Tammie and Harold Burrage; Tabitha Shabryl Hopson, Meridian High School, daughter of Angelia Hopson/Johnnie M. Hopson and Joseph Lee; Jasmine Key, Meridian High School, daughter of Rochelle and Jimmie Burge; Justice Lynch, Meridian High School, daughter of Eric and Rosemary Young; Samantha McGrew, Southeast Lauderdale High School, daughter of Vernon McGrew and Verna McGrew; Lynette Deann Nave, Meridian High School, daughter of Lynn and Gregory Nave; Mia Pittman, Meridian High School, daughter of Denise and Jerry Barner; Chrystianna Faythe Sloan, Meridian High School, parents of Josh and Rachel Sloan.
