Suzie McCraw School of Dance boasts great 2011-12 competition year

MERIDIAN — Students of the Suzie McCraw School of Dance in Meridian competed in three dance competitions regionally this year.

    The numerous competitive groups consist of Senior, Junior, Petite, Rhythm and Little Rhythm Companies, and Cheer Dance Expressions (teen and youth) Companies. The companies consist of members ranging from ages 7 to 18. The groups are both competitive and exhibition groups.

    "The students are well-rounded dancers, required to take technique classes as well as company classes," McCraw said.

    Companies received a total of 80 awards, including: two Judges Choice awards; 16 High Gold Excel awards; 22 Top First Place awards; five first place awards; seven Overall First Place Company awards; eight Top First Place Solo awards; eight Judges Choice Special Awards; three dancers selected for Junior International Dance Idols(held in Florida); eight dancers selected for National Dance Ambassadors (held in Georgia).

    Ten Company members attended National Dance Competition held in Georgia in July. They were presented six High Gold and one High Gold Excel Award. Several special awards were presented, including: Judges Choice Energy Award; First Place Overall Small Group Junior Division; Second Place Overall High Score Award Junior Division; First Place Overall Trio Pre-Junior Division; Second Place Overall Solo Pre Junior Division; and Third Place Overall High Score Pre-Junior Solo Award.

    "These awards were received at all four competitions and were entered in different levels of competition, according to their competitive experience, technical levels and number of hours spent in the studio weekly," McCraw said.

    Company members for 2011-12 are: Grace Goodman, Addie Ford, Libby Waite, Brooke Tanner, Allie Blythe, Shaela Roberts,Kirsten Haney,Helen Peake Sims, Jacy Waltman, Shelby Mitchell,Sophie Denton, Abbye Hughes, Alli Hughes, Zariah Bonner, Kylah Bonner, Trinity Talbert, Amber Fant, Markayla Hayes, Jordan Scales,Gracie Denton, Marci Lockley, Zoe Ngbwa Ntse, Madi Parker, Clara Griffin, Josie Hanegan,Raelee White, Brandi Dixon,Madison McCary, Gracie Dearman,and Antavia Mason.    

    Suzie McCraw School of Dance is located at 5215 Hwy. 493. Instructors for Companies are Suzie McCraw ,Tiffany Evans and Michelle Bracken (assistant).
