MERIDIAN —     Lawrence MHV Club members were encouraged to support charities at the club's June meeting.

During a presentation, members were reminded that Delbert Hoseman, the Mississippi Secretary of State wants citizens to make their contributions count. Tips Mississippians should know include: know your charity, resist pressure tactics, get information, be wary of phone calls, verify mail solicitations, always get receipts and volunteer cautiously.

For more information, call the Secretary of State’s Office at (601) 359-1371 or (888) 236-6167.

The Education Notes highlighted the teen issue of bullying.

The June 20, 2013, meeting was held at Newton Public Library, with President Carolyn Robinson conducting. Devotion, minutes and financial reports were presented.

Members continue to participate in Box Tops for Education, as well as collect Campbell soup labels and recycle magazines and newspapers for its state MHV projects.

Paulette Tramill sent 150 tray favors to the VA Nursing Home on the Fourth of July. Carolyn Robinson made caps for Blair E. Batson Hospital in Jackson. Tramill completed the backdrop for Newton Theatre Company’s “Steel Magnolias."
