Auditions this week for MLT production of 'Wait Until Dark'

MERIDIAN —     Meridian Little Theatre will hold auditions for Frederick Knott’s thriller "Wait Until Dark" Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m.. at the Highway 19 North playhouse.

The play, deemed “a first rate shocker” by the New York Post, will be presented Feb. 13-19. Rehearsals begin Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Ronnie Miller is the director.

"Wait Until Dark" is about a trio of criminals who terrorize Suzy, a recently blinded woman, who is in possession of a doll given to her husband by a stranger at an airport. Neither Suzy nor her absent husband knows that the doll is stuffed with heroin. The criminals concoct an elaborate hoax to persuade Suzy to give them the doll. When the hoax fails, the criminals turn deadly.

Lies, murder and deception build to a shattering climax as Suzy turns her greatest weakness into her greatest strength in outwitting her would-be killer. There are seven roles to be cast:

    • Sam Hendrix: 30s-40s, Susy’s husband, outgoing, friendly.

    • Susy Hendrix: 20s-30s, Recently blinded. Has an air of innocence, but an inner strength as well.

    • Mike Talman: 30s-40s, Recently out of jail. Must be charming, seem sincere; a good liar. Has a ruthless streak.

    • Sgt. Carlino: 30s-40s, Recently out of jail. Bit of a thug, thinks he's a criminal mastermind.

    • Harry Roat Jr.: 30s-40s, Sociopath, must be capable of playing multiple ages/characters. Villain of the piece. Ringleader.

    • Gloria: 9-13, Little girl who lives upstairs from Susy; a feisty, independent thinker.

    • New York Policeman One and Two: 20s-50s.

*Note: Mother and Daughter combinations are urged to audition for the roles of Susy and Gloria.

People auditioning are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to fill out an audition form. Should be prepared to read from scenes in the play. You can audition either night.
