MERIDIAN — Floyd T. Killebrew, Jr.

Open carry gun law cause for concern

What’s going to happen if the majority of citizens decide to bear arms on our streets? Regardless of the potential increase in gun violence, I believe Representative Gipson will use the 2nd amendment to justify putting more weapons on the streets and never accept responsibility for any shootings of innocent people.

Maybe he is unfamiliar with road rage and its consequences. Why now is this so important when people are less considerate and sympathetic? Our state has done an admirable job of living down much of its violent past. We are doing a wonderful job of attracting new industries. I wonder how many established companies will now want to bring their families to a state where most of the citizens walk around carrying guns?

The fact that the majority of our businesses are deciding not to allow guns on their premises speaks volumes. For several years, at the beginning of the school year I required my students to write a paragraph explaining who they were and their aspirations.

A large number admitted to having problems with anger management. Can you imagine people with anger management problems walking the streets with side arms? I am worried about the safety of my grand kids and I don’t think I am alone.

I believe — no — I know God’s law supersedes how some people chose to interpret the 2nd amendment of the constitution. Please read Mark 9!
