The Meridian Star

MERIDIAN — Thank you for your support

Dear Editor:

During the season of Christmas, we often take time to reflect on those people who have made a difference in our lives, giving thanks for the blessings they bring.

We, the staff members of the local Rush Senior Care programs based in Meridian and Collinsville want to thank the community members who have been supportive of our services during the past year.

With your help, we have been able to provide many area senior citizens with an outlet for helping them cope with grief, anxiety and depression that often can be brought on by situations that arise in their lives such as the loss of a spouse or the loss of one’s ability to be active due to poor health.

To all of our referral sources - the family members, friends, pastors, physicians and nurse practitioners and caregivers who have helped us help others, we want you to know we appreciate you.

With your help, we were able to reach out to and care for individuals who might not otherwise have known about our services.

Our jobs are very rewarding. We are witnesses to a very special type of healing. We love what we do and we love helping our program participants.

Thank you for your concern for others and for giving us the opportunity to share our skills with them and with this community.

    Sincerely,

Rush Senior Care Staff, Meridian: Rachel Scarbrough, LCSW; and Tammy Frapp, RN

Rush Senior Care Staff, Collinsville: Heather Stinson, LPC; and Rhonda Williams, RN

Dear Mississippi Voter:

The majority of Mississippi voters cast a ballot in favor of a constitutional photo identification requirement. As Secretary of State and Chief Elections Officer for the State of Mississippi, the Mississippi Legislature has tasked our Agency with implementing Voter ID.

While the vast majority of us have one of the many forms of acceptable photo ID, there are some Mississippians who lack proper identification. We need your help identifying those individuals prior to the June 3, 2014 Primary Election. Any registered voter who lacks an acceptable photo ID is eligible to receive a FREE Mississippi Voter ID card, and we are committed to ensuring those individuals have one prior to the June 3rd Primary Election.

The Secretary of State’s Office has worked with multiple state agencies to facilitate the voter ID requirement. Our office worked closely with the Mississippi Department of Transportation to provide FREE transportation to any individual who needs assistance obtaining a Mississippi Voter ID card.

We have worked with the Mississippi Department of Health, Office of Vital Records to provide a FREE verification of birth record if an individual has no other means to verify their identity to receive a FREE Mississippi Voter ID card. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety has also provided invaluable input in facilitating this requirement.

Voting is the key to our democracy. We are committed to ensuring everyone who is qualified to vote has the opportunity to cast a ballot. We encourage you to call our Office at 1-855-868-3745 or visit our website at www.MSVoterID.ms.gov for more information. We look forward to working with you to implement the constitutional photo identification requirement and appreciate your help in the process.

Sincerely,

Delbert Hosemann, Secretary of State

Jobs are the issue; our

Congressmen just don't get it

Americans are floundering until the economy recovers. The economy won't recover until there are sufficient non-government jobs to employ the masses. There will not be sufficient jobs until we address the issue that caused our job losses in the first place, our inability to compete with the rest of the world.

We lost our competitiveness in the early 80s and jobs started leaving. Our representatives in Washington are doing nothing. They either don't get it or lack the courage to take on the issue.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it's sitting right in their midst. HR 25, the FairTax Bill takes on the issue of our lack of competitiveness and solves it.  By changing our federal income tax system from taxing all forms of personnel income to a national sales tax on new goods and services, we win. This new system eliminates all embedded taxes and tax associated costs throughout the manufacturing process. All of a sudden America arguably becomes the low cost place in the world to do business and therefore the place to build your new factory.  Good paying jobs return. Americans win.

Right now 74 Congressmen are co-sponsoring the bill. It's likely that yours is not. Contact him or her today. Find out more at FairTax.org.
