Gourd festival a success ... regardless of rain

Never let it be said that gourd folks are easily discouraged. Neither rain nor heat, not even an alligator visitor, will stop our gourd festival from being a success. Yes, it rained all day just about but people still came to the 5th annual gourd festival held at Gourd Gracious Farm in the Martin Community on Sept. 20th. Thanks go out to all the vendors and teachers who hung in there all day even with the showers. And a special thanks to all of you who came out and visited with us and purchased gourds and other supplies. We were looking for around 800 people to show up but with the weather we only had about 300 but we still had a lot of fun and got the chance to see some remarkable crafted gourds. Thanks to the Meridian Star for the great pictures of the festival that appeared in the Sunday paper and thanks go out to WTOK for having us on Good Morning Meridian to talk about the festival before hand. Thank you, Citizen National Bank, for putting up a tent and bringing out tables and chairs for our visitors to eat the delicious food cooked by our great cooks, Tony and Sharon Pompelia. Thank you, Tony and Sharon! It was all so good! Thank you to my children and grandchildren who were so much help in so many ways. We couldn't have done it without you. And last but definitely not least, thanks to my dear friends, Nettie and Jeffrey Mayatt, who every year work at the registration table and tend to the raffle and so many other details. You are true friends!

Be sure and put the date of next year's festival on your calenders right now.
