United Way says 'thank you'

United Way would like to salute the community of East Mississippi for an outstanding campaign this year. Through your thoughtfulness and generosity, United Way will be adding three new agencies this year to our list of outstanding partners. They are Lauderdale Outreach Volunteer Effort (LOVE’S Kitchen), Living Independence for Everyone (LIFE), and South Harbor Shelter Program. These agencies have distinguished themselves in our community for the great work they do and will join the other tried and true agencies that we have come to know and respect.

At this year’s annual meeting, United Way recognized our partner agencies for their work, paid tribute to the long list of our Pacesetter Companies, thanked our out-going board members for their great work, passed the gavel of leadership for 2008-09 to our new Board Chairman Donnie Smith and Campaign Chairman Leon Harris. We recognized the accomplishments of Mississippi Power’s “Power Volunteers” by awarding them with the first annual United Way “Community Cup.” In addition, Mr. Tommy Dulaney was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his selfless and inexorable efforts in making our community a better place to live.

We want to thank Outback Steakhouse, World of Flowers, the NAS Midshipmen, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for making the annual meeting a great success. Most importantly, we want to thank you for your outstanding community support for this year’s campaign.

Gary Wilkinson, Chairman (2007-2008)

United Way of East Mississippi
