What Gene Taylor seems unable to admit is that Republicans pulled a coup.
The reason Republicans had to ensure that Bush beat Gore in 2000 is because if four more years had elapsed with Saddam appearing harmless, Americans and Congress might not have been swayed to invade that nation which has never attacked us. They were planning to invade Iraq prior to 9-11 so that Bush could assume the mantle of vague, wartime authority.
Bush's intention in numerous signing statements onto legislation that he will execute the law only when and how he deems it appropriate, refusing to allow Congress oversight, bilking the treasury through corrupt contractors and no-bid contracts, authorizing the military to torture despite it's violation of the Geneva Conventions, attempting to destroy our system of election through hackable computerized voting machines, using the Department of Justice to frame Democrats, revealing the identity of an intelligence operative, spying on Americans without warrants which began prior to 9-11, are examples of the Bush Administration's extrajudicial, dictatorial activities with help from Republicans and some Democrats.
Although Taylor has said that he voted to impeach Clinton for a criminal act, by duping the nation and Congress into invading Iraq through fabricated intelligence, Bush and Co. committed the crime of fraud.
Although this coup has not had the intended effect of a complete Republican takeover of government, a precedent has now been set that the president has powers unlimited by the other two branches. Republicans have changed the nature of our government without going through the legal channels of Congress or a super-majority of states. In other words, without the people being represented. That, fellow Americans, is Tyranny.
