Truly 'caring' about veterans

I am retired from the U.S Navy and find it rather funny, and ironic how much the candidates "care" about veterans after they were embarrassed by one of their own when he was the only one to show up at a forum for veteran's affairs discussions. I have no doubt in my mind that they were all contacted, maybe not the candidate themselves but a least someone on their staff was, and just decided that we were not a group with a lot of money to contribute to their campaigns and they just did not have the time to attend a meeting to listen to a group that supported their country for many years "whine" about broken promises and substandard care.

In my mind, this goes along with the fact that the American people's, not just veterans, opinion of their elected officials is at an all time low, and in most cases continuing to fall. I recently tried to contact just about all of our national level politicians with concerns and issues, and not a single one even acknowledged receipt, or was I answered by even the lowest of staff personnel. So, in affect, the ignoring of issues by the group running for the house is just practice for the way business seems to be done after they are elected. Tell the people whatever they want to hear in public, and then ignore them and do want big money interests want after you are elected. Maybe it is time for the average American to take back their country an get rid of the "good old boys" in the political machine. If the elected officials are not getting the job done, fire them, they work for the public, not the other way around! We live in the greatest country in the world, but we must safeguard our rights, and when things are not right, get out and vote the right candidates in who will change things back for the better.
