Thank goodness Cronkite's not in charge

Well, I suppose we've lost another war.

Surveying the war in Iraq from his lofty perch as "Legend in My Own Mind," Walter Cronkite, "the most trusted man in America," has just announced to the world in a meeting with reporters, "It's my belief that we should get out now."

"We had an opportunity to say to the world and Iraqis after the hurricane disaster that Mother Nature has not treated us well and we find ourselves missing the amount of money it takes to help these poor people out of their homeless situation and rebuild some of our most important cities in the United States," he said. "Therefore, we are going to have to bring our troops home.""

Many expect that President Bush will immediately announce, as did then-Vietnam era President Lyndon Johnson, "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America."

Well, I guess you can't argue with that kind of brilliance. From either.

Thank God that during World War II, we didn't have a hurricane while Walter was on the job. We'd all be speaking German now — instead of Spanish.
