Some thought we'd never see this day again — gas at under $3 a gallon.
But in North Meridian at the North Hills Gas-N-Go at the intersection of North Hills Street and State Boulevard Extension, a gallon of regular unleaded fuel sold for $2.99 late Thursday.
Officials at the store would not comment on the prices — which were at least 10 cents below some of the lowest gas prices in the area — but a sign in front of the store read, "Under New Ownership."
Motorists moved in and out of the North Meridian filling station after the prices dipped, but lines weren't excessively long.
Elsewhere in Meridian, the lowest gas prices Thursday could be found at the Murphy USA on Highway 19 North for $3.09 a gallon, according to www.mississippigasprices.com. The average price: $3.22, according to the user-generated site.
The dip in prices across the country came as Crude oil fell to the lowest in a year at $86.59 a barrel.
