West Lauderdale scores two more in the seventh and sits East Central down in order in the bottom of the frame. Knights win 9-2 and take a 1-0 series lead over the Hornets. Check tomorrow's edition of The Meridian Star for a complete recap of the game.
Headed to the 7th. West on top 7-2.
Going to B5. The score is now 7-1 after Melton drove in a run with his second double of the game.
Still in T5, it's now a 6-1 game after a two-run triple by Darren Farmer.
West scores two in T4. McWilliams led off with a walk. His courtesy runner (Trey McPherson) scored on a double off the wall by Caleb Melton, who advanced to third on the throw. Melton scored on a bunt by Stokes.
After three, Knights are still behind 1-0. Dustin McWilliams pitched out of a jam as a single and an error put runners on second and third with one out. A strike out and a popout ended the inning.
After one inning, West trails 1-0. The Hornets scored after the leadoff batter was hit by a pitch. He was driven in by back-to-back singles later in the inning.
West Lauderdale and East Central are under way in Game 1 of the Class 4A baseball state championship series. There will be updates throughout the game on this page.
