God's Encounter With Man

A new book from a Meridian author

MERIDIAN —     Retired Pastor Thomas Wood wrote a book about a divine encounter with God. That was back in 1976, and at the time, Wood says he was unable to find a publisher.

"Publishers turned me down. At the time they said that they just couldn't publish the book at the time. So it stayed on a shelf for many years until last year" Wood said.

Rev. Wood said that one day he thought about a new idea.

"I thought that it might be a good idea to go to Lifeway. I sent them the book, and they sent it to Crossbooks publishing and they told me that they wanted to publish the book," Wood explained.

The book is designed to lay out the plan of salvation in an easy format for the reader. It covers words that are meant to express the concept of salvation.

Wood said he got the idea for the book when he heard a lecture by Dr. Ray Frank Robbins in March of 1976. There Robbins talked about the subject of justification.

"He broadened the subject to include 14 words in the New Testament that deals with God's encounter with man. From this lecture, I was determined to preach 14 sermons on the subject," Wood said.

The 14 words in the book are as follows; transfiguration, salvation, sanctification, conversion, adoption, reconciliation, regeneration, reformation, redemption, calling, justification, election, forgiveness, and purification. All are explained in Wood's book.

Wood will have a book signing Sunday at Briarwood Baptist Church here in Meridian. For more information, call (601) 681-6615.
