Hawley, Long

MERIDIAN —     Dr. and Mrs. William Kirkland Hawley announce the engagement of their daughter, Alice Jennings, to Henry Sprott Long III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sprott Long Jr., all of Birmingham, Ala.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. Clifford Aubrey Lowry and the late Mrs. Clifford Aubrey Lowry of Cullman, Ala. and the late Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hawley of Birmingham.

    Miss Hawley holds a bachelor of the arts in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She earned a master of arts degree in counseling psychology with a specialization in couple and family therapy from the University of Colorado, Denver. She is a graduate of Indian Springs School in Birmingham.

    While attending U of C, Denver, she was president of the local chapter of the Chi Sigma Iota international counseling honor society and honored as her program’s outstanding graduate of 2011. Miss Hawley was presented at the Ball of Roses and the Heritage Ball in Birmingham. She is a member of the Birmingham Ballet Guild and serves on the Alabama/Lyric Theatres Junior Board.

    Miss Hawley is a counselor in private practice in Birmingham specializing in adolescent psychology, family counseling and couples therapy.

    The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Earl McGinnins Jr. of Meridian and Mrs. Henry Sprott Long and the late Mr. Henry Sprott Long of Birmingham.

    Mr. Long holds a bachelor of science degree in commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. He earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of Alabama School of Law, cum laude, and a master of laws (L.L.M.) degree in taxation from New York University. He is a graduate of Indian Springs School in Birmingham.

    While attending UV, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Mr. Long currently serves as president of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham and serves on the junior board of Studio by the Tracks.

    Mr. Long practices with the Butler Snow law firm in Birmingham, specializing in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity matters.

    The couple plans a summer wedding in Birmingham.
