MERIDIAN —     Robert and Candy Ward of Meridian announce the engagement of their daughter, Katie to Chris Bartlett, son of Phil and Carolyn Bartlett of Charleston, S.C.

    The wedding will be Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at 6 p.m., at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Columbia, S.C.

    Miss Ward is the granddaughter of the late Colonel and Mrs. Lawrence Dudley, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ward, all of Meridian.                The bride-elect is a 2003 graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South where she received a bachelor’s degree in music/psychology, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she received a master’s degree in industrial/organization psychology. She expects to graduate from the University of South Carolina with a Ph.D. in human resources/organizational behavior in 2013. She is also a 1999 graduate of Meridian High School.    While attending Sewanee, she was a member of Theta Kappa Phi sorority, the Angel Team, and the Order of Gownsmen.            Miss Ward has recently accepted a position at Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Va., as an assistant professor of management, to begin in August of 2013.                Mr. Chris Bartlett is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ballard, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bartlett, all of Asheville, N.C.    

    The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of the University of South Carolina for both his bachelor’s degree in honors college: religious studies in 2003, and his master’s in business administration in 2011. He is also a 1998 graduate of Academic Magnet High School, Charleston, S.C.                While attending USC, he was a member of the Student Body Presidents’ Cabinet, Students Allied for a Greener Earth, Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society, Golden Key, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.            Mr. Bartlett is employed by the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, DC.

    A reception will be held at City Art in Columbia, S.C.
