MCC math department hosts district meet; local middle school students advance to state contest

MERIDIAN —     The Meridian Community College Mathematics Department hosted the district seventh and eighth grade mathematics competition, sponsored by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics, on Feb. 28.

    Each year the middle schools and junior high schools in MCC’s district are invited to send top seventh and eighth grade mathematics students to this competition. Students take a written standardized test.

    The first and second place winners in each grade qualify for the state competition on April 5 at Mississippi College in Clinton.

    Seventh grade winners include: Adam Zuchowski from Northwest Middle School first place; Matthew Landis from West Lauderdale Middle School, second place; and Nathaniel May from Southeast Middle School, third place. Eight grade winners include: Ethan Clopton from Northwest Middle School, first place; Rose Albert from West Lauderdale Middle School, second place; and Leslie Hatcher from Northeast Middle School, third place.
