Here's a look at upcoming programs and events at the area's public's, private and faith-based schools:



• Northwest Middle School PTO meeting, 6 p.m., library



• Meridian High School Blood Drive, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Bloodmobile on campus.

• T.J. Harris Upper Elementary PBIS Parent Information Session, 5:30 p.m., T.J. Harris Upper Elementary Cafeteria.



• Oakland Heights Elementary School Loco Cocoa Day, from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Honoring students with excellent behavior during the second nine weeks. They will have hot chocolate and socialize with other students exhibiting responsible, resourceful, and respectful behavior.

• Poplar Springs Elementary School's fourth and fifth grades attend "Peter Pan," MSU Riley Center


March 20 – Free Parenting Seminar, "Giving Kids a Head Start on Smart," from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., MCC Multi-Purpose Center, 915 Hwy 19 North. Presenter: Rodney Wilson PhD, MAT, therapist, Division of Children and Youth, Weems Community Mental Health Center and assistant professor of psychology, Mississippi State University

This free seminar is specifically designed for those who live and work with children, such as parents, guardians, childcare providers, teachers and counselors.

Pre-registration is required by calling MCC at (601) 482-7445. A certificate of attendance will be provided upon request.

Here's a look at upcoming programs and events at area community colleges and universities:


Beginning Feb. 24 – East Central Community College will serve as a host site for the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition, "The Way We Worked," which will be on display for several weeks on the Decatur campus.

The exhibit officially opens with a special ceremony at 2 p.m. Feb. 24, in the Molly McGee Gold Room of Mabry Memorial Cafeteria.
