    Here's a look at upcoming events and city and county public, private and faith-based schools:

    • Thursday – T.J. Harris Elementary: First Grade Parent Meeting, 5:30 p.m.

    • Thursday – Poplar Springs Elementary: First Grade Parent Meetings, 6 p.m., first grade classrooms

    Here's a look at upcoming events at Meridian Community College. For more information, call (601), 482-7445, unless otherwise noted:

      • Today and Thursday – Continuing Education class: Distribution Training, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Workforce Development Center.

     • Friday – Continuing Education class: Forklift Training, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Workforce Development Center.

    • Aug. 18 – ServSafe Food Seminar, 8 a.m., Dulaney Room, Webb Hall. FMI: Mark Chandler, (601) 484-8825.

     • Aug. 20 – Fall semester classes begin. FMI: Angela Payne, (601) 481-1357.

     • Aug. 20-22/Aug. 21-Sept. 13 – Continuing Education class: Call Center Customer Service classes. Aug. 20-22, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Aug. 21-Sept. 13, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays)

     • Aug. 21-Dec. 11 – Continuing Education class: Cabinetry and Woodworking, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.; (class meets on Tuesdays) Reed Hall Room 132.

    • Aug. 21 – Continuing Education class: Introduction to Computers, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Webb Hall. Light lunch provided.

    • Aug. 27-Oct. 30 – Continuing Education class: Introduction to Network Cabling C-Tech, Copper Based Systems, from 6 p.m.-10 p.m., (class meets on Tuesdays) Webb Hall Room 129.

     • Aug. 27-Dec. 10 – Continuing Education class: Principles of Air Conditioning I, Part I, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.,Reed Hall Room 100. (class meets on Mondays)

     • Aug. 28-Sept. 11 – Continuing Education class: Principles of Air Conditioning II, Part I, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m., Reed Hall Room 100. (class meets on Tuesdays)

     • Aug. 28-Sept. 11 – Continuing Education class: Introduction to Computers, from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., (class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays) Webb Hall.

     • Aug. 28-Sept. 11 – Continuing Education class, Digital Photography, from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. (class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays).

     • Aug. 29-Sept. 26 – Continuing Education class, Zumba, Session I, (class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays)

    • Friday – 40th Anniversary Celebration (cake, ice cream, door prizes), from 1 p.m.-3 p.m., Kahlmus Auditorium.

    • Aug. 20 – First day of classes

    • Aug. 27 – Last day to register/add a course
